PPG’s first precipitated silica products were developed in collaboration with rubber manufacturers in the 1930s to solve a specific problem; namely, the shortage of natural rubber. That legacy continues. For the past 80 years, we have worked with customers to develop and advance precipitated silica solutions that have become inextricable to high-performance in a variety of applications and industries.

Applications
Application Solutions for Multiple Industries

Rubber
PPG's precipitated silica products have been integral to the rubber industry since the 1930s and have earned the trust of manufacturers and compounders around the world for their reliable performance, consistent quality and dependable supply.

Carrier and Free-Flow
Our precipitated silica products are used as free-flow and carrying agents for food, animal feed and agricultural and industrial applications enabling products and processes to flow better.

Coatings, Adhesives and Sealants
Our precipitated silica products are used as high-performance flatting agents, thickening agents and anti-corrosion pigments to improve the performance, workability and sustainability of coatings, paints, inks, adhesives, and sealants

Microporous
PPG's precipitated silica products are a key component of battery separators and TESLIN® synthetic paper, providing microporosity that is the basis for a wide range of related performance benefits.

What is amorphous precipitated silica?
Precipitated silica is a form of synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide. It is derived from quartz sand, a crystalline form of silicon dioxide. The physical properties of precipitated silica can be manipulated during the manufacturing process to create products that enhance the performance of finished goods in many different industries.
PPG's precipitated silica is a form of synthetic amorphous silica covered by CAS REGISTRY NUMBER: 112926-00-8, (CAS# 7631-86-9 for the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) inventory purposes).
How is amorphous precipitated silica used?
Typical applications for amorphous precipitated silica include: free-flow and carrier agents for food, animal feed, and agricultural and industrial chemicals; flatting, thickening and anti-corrosion additives for paints and coatings; microporous fillers for battery separators; performance-enhancing fillers for tire, industrial and silicone rubber applications; and non-black reinforcing agents for rubber shoe soles and footwear.
