75 years of history
Qemetica is the successor of the CIECH Group, whose origins date back to 1945. It was then established as the Central Import and Export of Chemicals, dealing with the trading of chemical products. After the political changes at the end of the 1980s, the nature of the company changed – from trading to production. Around CIECH, the then owner - the State Treasury - grouped chemical factories, including soda ash plants. In 2005, CIECH went public on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and acquired soda factories in Romania and Germany.
Dynamic growth
A breakthrough in CIECH's development was the acquisition of 51% of shares by Kulczyk Investment – a private owner specializing in transforming businesses. This began the transformation of the chemical group, resulting in, among other things, the acquisition of the Spanish plant protection products distributor Proplan and the implementation of the largest investment program in CIECH's history. CIECH successfully implemented subsequent strategies for 2019-2021 and 2022-2024.
New chapter
In 2023, another strategic decision for the future of CIECH was made. The majority shareholder, Sebastian Kulczyk, decided to buy out shares from other investors, and at the beginning of 2024, the company left the Warsaw and Frankfurt stock exchanges. Simultaneously, in the spring of 2024, a new 6-year strategy based on innovation and sustainable development was presented, thanks to the ongoing energy transformation. This also included the rebranding of CIECH to Qemetica - a brand reflecting the global ambitions of one of the largest chemical groups in Central Europe.
